Mercè 2022: Concerts, visits, shows and fireworks!

Barcelona is celebrating its big day this weekend, with a huge program for its first release without any health restrictions. Many buildings, institutions and museums will be open for free, the city will be full of stages for performances and concerts, people will be able to watch shows and parades of popular culture every day, enjoy a gastronomic festival, go to see the open-air cinemas, or marvel at the fireworks. And all this for free.

Popular culture demonstrations and rallies

On Friday the 23rd we can see sardines at Plaça de la Mercè at 7pm, and a parade of giants from 9pm to 10pm at Gòtic.

On Saturday 24, the day will start with music with Grallas from 8am in the Gòtic, before the Castellers at 1pm in Plaça Sant Jaume. At 6:15 p.m. we can see sardines again at Plaça de la Mercè, and the big show will take place from 7 p.m. from Plaça Catalunya to Plaça Sant Jaume.

Weekend in BarcelonaOn Sunday the 25th, the sardines (dance paired with percussion) will meet at 11 am in Passeig de Gràcia, while sardines will be held at the same time in the Avinguda de la Catedral. At 12 noon, castellers will begin at Plaça Sant Jaume, and a large Corfuc will begin at 8:30 pm at the intersection of Passeig de Gràcia and Rosselló.

Finally, the 26th, Monday, we can attend a concert of havaneres (a song for Catalan fishermen, whose music comes from Havana) at 6 pm in Plaça de Sant Jaume.

Many free concerts are organized in the four corners of the city for La Mercè, particularly across the BAM Festival, with all styles of music to please everyone. No reservation required.

On Friday the 23rd, a musical tribute to Pau Ripa, the Catalan artist and singer who died this year, will be honored at 10pm at the Avinguda de la Catedral. At 11:30pm the great Spanish group La Oreja de Van Gogh can be seen at Avinguda de la Reina María Cristina.

On Saturday the 24th, at 8:45 pm, the Seul del Districte de Nou Barris will host a concert by the Symphony Orchestra at the Gran Teatre del Liceu.

On Sunday the 25th, the Barcelona and Catalonia Symphony Orchestra will give a concert at 8:45 pm at the same venue. At Carrer de Martí i Franquès you can see Miki Núñez on stage from 9:35 pm, Stay Homas at 10:30 pm at Avinguda de la Reina María Cristina.

Street and park performances

From Friday to Monday, many of Barcelona’s streets, squares and parks will turn into performance venues with stages and food trucks. To enjoy it, go to Ciutadella Park, Montjuïc Castle, Joan Miró Park, Palauet Albéñiz, Trinitat Park, Aqüeduct Park, Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm and Plaza de la Mercè.
