Lazuli’s musical journey begins in Mâcon, a town in southern Burgundy. Of Chilean descent through her father, it was the child and then the teenager who regularly went to Bourg-en-Bresse, a few kilometers from her hometown. There, a large Chilean diaspora was formed after the arrival of dozens of people who had fled the dictatorship of General Pinochet, which seized the country between 1973 and March 1990. Arriving on the same plane, the members of the diaspora kept in touch and met regularly around football matches and sometimes rented halls in town to celebrate together.

In the midst of this scandalous cultural bubble, Lazuli grew up serene to the rhythm of Chilean music and Latin sounds that introduced her to salsa, dancehall, reggaeton and dance.e, frequently practiced by his predecessors. Naturally, she then turned to dancing, enrolling in several classes, and crafting her explosive musical tastes around an eventful passion. However, if Lazuli had been rocked by music since her very first steps, she had never thought of doing it herself. To sink, you will need to settle down in Lyon, friends rooted in the city’s rap scene and confinement: to kill the boredom, the girl who secluded herself passes in the company of producer Eisen in front of the microphone for the first time and throws the spark on the cultural and artistic reserve that he had accumulated until then. Lazuli was born.

For his first songs, Lazuli naturally goes towards his most direct influences, connecting songs until he wants to bring them all together on a project. Heavily influenced by Baile Funk, a subgenre of Dancehall born in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1980s, the artist landed in January 2021 in the heart of the alleys that gave birth to this shattering and addictive music. Then follows a musical and cultural exploration that has produced several clips and, above all, his first project. zeroauthored entirely by producer Leon Eisen, will be unveiled on June 16, 2021.

Since his first disc, the talent of the artist seems indisputable: with his own beatmaker and DJ attached to him, Lazuli succeeds in presenting, from his first steps, innovative and complete music, unique in the francophone scene and with already solid foundations. In addition to condensing influences drawn from South American music into her productions, the singer synthesizes a self-tuned, gentle and subtle sound with a roughness in common with those that can be heard on tracks from the Soundcloud scene, and generates a sound. A new genre born from the complex mixture of his well-equipped musical background. The result was indeed very promising.

One thing remains certain: with a few dozen pieces of music unearthed in his personal projects, in collaborative projects for 1863 Media or in those of other artists such as Rad Cartier, Lazuli’s music seems to cement its identity with each new release. And he has already proven many times that his talent certainly lies in interpretation, but also in his innovative and forceful way of structuring his own music at the crossroads of influences.

By blending different universes in the same solidly constructed proposal, Lazuli has succeeded from the beginning of his career in assuming his own style, in shedding the labels and divisions that are often imposed on music. Club, Dancehall, Airy Melodies, Reggaetton and Sharp Verses: Lazuli doesn’t care about labels and knows how to do it all and does it well. And that’s it.
